- Sara Skillen of SkillSet Organizing will be a featured speaker at the "Think You Have Your Sh!t Together" Small Business Speaker Series on January 30, 2014, 5:30 pm, at Atmalogy, 2320 West End Avenue, Nashville, TN. Some of the most common resolutions for business owners are getting an estate plan in order and organizing the physical state of the office. Sara, along with estate planning attorney Allison Thompson will provide business owners with tips and tricks to get their New Year off on the right foot. December 31, 2013 - SkillSet Celebrates National Get Organized Monthat the Williamson County Public Library
– January is Get Organized (GO) Month, and Sara Skillen, member of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) and owner of SkillSet Organizing, plans to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the national public awareness initiative by hosting "Drowning in Docs - Organizing Paper for the New Year" at the main branch of the Williamson County Public Library on January 16, 2014 at 6:30 pm. The goal of the program is to help members of the local community start the new year off right by getting organized.
For the past decade, NAPO has promoted GO Month each January to coincide with the common New Year’s resolution to get organized. During GO Month, NAPO professional organizers and productivity specialists across the country host events in their communities to empower individuals, families, businesses and organizations to regain control over their surroundings, time and possessions. By sharing proven organizing and productivity techniques and principles, NAPO members help people save time, save money and reduce stress.
Sara's program tackles the question, "Are we truly becoming a "paperless" society?". While the idea may be catching on, most of us are still struggling with the volume of paperwork that comes into our homes. Join Sara for an informative and entertaining program on the best methods for getting the mountains of paper under control - whether from work, school, snail mail or even our own buying habits. Learn what to keep (and how to keep it) and what to toss as Sara takes you step by step through the various types of paper clutter.

September 22, 2013 - Sara Skillen now a regular contributor to The Plum online magazine
Sara is excited to now have a regular monthly column in The Plum online (www.theplum.org), a brand new magazine dedicated to topics of particular interest to women cancer survivors. Each month she will be sharing with readers her observations and information about overcoming situational disorganization, and will feature a different "Approachable Challenge" each month that encourages everyone to try out her organizing techniques in their homes and lives. Send me a photo of the most disorganized drawer in your home – for instance, the “junk” drawer. You know, the one with paper clips, batteries, old phone chargers, Legos, bobby pins, loose change, and pens that don’t work.
I’ll pick TWO drawers as the WINNERS!!
Winners will receive a complete drawer organization makeover including organizing trays, drawer liner and labels.
The catch?? The winning drawers will be organized in a LIVE demonstration at the National Women’s Survivors Convention on August 24, 2013. Drawer owner information will be kept completely confidential, and the drawers and all items (even the ones I think should probably be pitched!) will be returned to the owner after the demonstration. Don't worry - no clutter will be harmed during the filming of this demonstration.
RULES (because you know a contest has to have rules):
Please submit two photos - one from over the open drawer looking directly down and one from the side (see example pictures below). Photos should be emailed to email@example.com or through Facebook messages. Please do not post photos to the SkillSet Organizing Facebook page timeline.
Picture submissions should include name, phone number and email address of the contestant, and the dimensions of the drawer.
Interior drawer dimensions must be at least 12"W x 18"L, and have a depth of at least 2 1/2”.
Winners will be notified by August 15, 2013. Winning drawers should be able to be picked up in the Middle Tennessee area (sorry, no shipping of drawers). Drawers will be picked up August 22, 2013 and returned to owners August 25, 2013.
Items in the drawer must be reasonably safe – no knives, firearms, fireworks, flammable, poisonous or combustible substances, pepper spray, or live animals. Remember, this drawer will be organized in a live demonstration, so no items that you wouldn’t want roughly 70 of your closest friends to see. :-)
SkillSet Organizing will of course be VERY careful will all items, but will not assume responsibility for any damage in the unlikely event something happens.
Sara Skillen to lead Empowerment Session at The National Women’s Survivors Convention August 22-24, 2013, Nashville TN
Sara Skillen, Founder of SkillSet Organizing, has been invited to lead an Empowerment Session on organizing at the First Annual National Women’s Survivors Convention to be held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort August 22-24, 2013. Her session is entitled “Declutter and De-stress: Let’s Get Organized!” and will feature a live demonstration, many of her organizing principles and tips, as well as important information for attendees regarding organizing personal health records. With several personal connections to this cause, Sara is honored to participate in this inspiring inaugural event.
The National Women’s Survivors Convention is designed around the theme of “Take Charge,” and will inspire attendees to recharge, move forward and transform themselves in an environment of camaraderie – sharing their stories of survivorship and being motivated by the spirit and stories of others. March 14, 2013- Sara elected to board of Nashville NAPO Chapter
Sara Skillen of SkillSet Organizing was elected Secretary of the Nashville chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) at their regular monthly meeting on March 14, 2013. Her term will begin May 15, 2013. NAPO is a group of about 4,200 professional organizers dedicated to helping individuals and businesses bring order and efficiency to their lives. NAPO's vision is to have the world recognize the value of organizing and turn to NAPO as the leading organizing authority.
